"I always love to try and find the Purple Gallinule when I’m out in the wetlands of Florida. Their purple bodies and bright yellow legs make this bird one of the top five birds for birders to find in Florida. All year long these beautiful birds can be found fluttering across the tops of the lilies with their while tail feathers bobbing up and down searching for vegetation to eat. The first time I saw the Purple Gallinule chicks I was amazed at their huge feet. They were almost as big as the adults! This helps them to walk on top of the lilies without falling into the water, although they are excellent swimmers, too."
