"I saw my first Red Wolves at the Tallahassee Museum of Natural History. They were in a large area where they could run around freely. These wolves used to roam all over the southeastern states, but are now endangered and found only in zoos and the breeding farm in North Carolina where all the remaining 17 wolves were taken to preserve the species. With the Cypress Swamp there at the museum, I could just imagine the Red Wolves running through the swamp hunting small game. I decided to paint these beautiful, endangered animals splashing through the swamp. Thankfully the Red Wolf numbers are over 300 now and they will be letting some back out into the wild in the Carolinas."
